Winter is typically a season for getaways, or maybe even just going about your everyday business, Christmas shopping etc. However, travelling in winter can be very challenging if you are not well equipped for the potencial pitfalls.
Sudden unexpected changes in weather conditions can make driving very dangerous and treacherous. Sudden freezing temperatures and snow and ice can cause chaos that can ruin anyones travels. Winterproof your automobile:
The first step for preparing safely for this winter is to get your vehicle ready for all possible wintery conditions. Small yet effective steps such as these can make the difference in driving safely this winter:
1. Check the tyre pressure. These can be found in the Car owners manual.
2. Check your batttery is in good working condition. If in doubt, visit your local garage.
3. The oil level must be sufficient. Low or poor quality oil can be detremental to the engine.
4. Inspect all lights and wipers to insure they are in good condition.
Driving in Snowy conditions:
Before setting out on the road in snow, get well versed the proven techniques for winter driving in snow and icey conditions:
1. Drive alot slower
2. Brake much earlier (up to ten times) and be progressive and very gentle. Especially around corners.
3. In the event of a skid, turn the steering into the skid. Avoid braking until you are back in control. As unatural as it may seem, it's the only way to operate the vehicle under these adverse conditions.
Pack an Emergency Kit and Learn about Handling Common Emergencies
It's a good idea to pack basics, such as antifreeze, blankets and drinking water, a Mobile telephone as we as an in-car charger so that you can call for assistance if neccessary.
